Over the past 13 years, Truong Thanh Furniture Corp. also has built a substantial outdoor business. It has six factories in Vietnam, and outdoor represents about 60% of volume.
It started making indoor furniture about seven years ago, exporting mostly to Japan and South Korea. Today, the category represents about 25% of its business, with the remainder wood flooring.
Now, Truong Thanh sees growth potential in indoor furniture for the U.S. market, particularly as some Chinese manufacturers face stiff duties on bedroom furniture.
But lower cost is just one advantage the company claims to have over China, said President Vo Truong Thanh. Because of its manufacturing capabilities, he said the company can produce medium to high-end goods as opposed to the lower-end products coming out of China.
To facilitate production, it employed an automatic electrostatic spray finishing process, with a 750-meter line and spray booths. It may shift to UV line finishing if business grows.
